Govt Secures 10,000 Opportunities For Kenyan Students at Amazon; How to Apply
The Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy on Tuesday, April 4, announced plans to upskill 10,000 students using AWS Academy.
Confirming the programme, Amazon Web Services stated that Kenyan students will learn web technologies, especially Cloud Computing.
Speaking during the announcement at Connected Kenya 2023 held in Diani, ICT Authority CEO Stanley Kamanguya stated that President William Ruto’s government is seeking to open up the country through technological revolution.
“In our 10-year ICT Digital Masterplan 2022-2032, we identified that there is a gap in the non-alignment to the industry needs by universities and colleges.
“The programme we are announcing today with AWS aims to bridge this gap between academia and industry. We are very excited to roll this out and look forward to further expanding the opportunity to students in other tertiary institutions,” Kamanguya noted.
Amazon Web Services noted that students from higher education institutions will be prepared for industry-recognised certifications and careers in the cloud.
“Beginning in June 2023, students can enroll in ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum that prepares them to pursue industry-recognised certifications and in-demand jobs.
“The curriculum also helps educators stay at the forefront of AWS Cloud innovation so that they can equip students with the skills they need to get hired in one of the fastest-growing industries,” Amazon confirmed.
Those who shall have completed the courses will be ready to put these practical cloud skills to work in entry-level tech roles.
The American company explained that cloud adoption is quickly gaining traction in the job market, as such, students need to acquire the necessary skills to fit.
“Companies large and small around the world are investing in their future with the cloud and need individuals with cloud skills to help them achieve their goals.
“In fact, according to LinkedIn data, cloud computing is one of the top hard skills companies need,” Amazon stated.
AWS Training Partner in East and Southern Africa, Computer Learning Centre (CLC), confirmed that 10 public universities across Kenya will benefit from the programme.
“We at CLC are honored to support ICT Authority’s mission to train and certify 10,000 young people through AWS Academy,’” noted CEO, CLC AFRICA Aunally Maloo.
