JOB REFERENCE NUMBER: V/No. 8/2023
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arbitration of disputes on inheritance, marriage & divorce among Muslim families
- Solemnizing and registering Muslim marriages
- Supervising pronunciation of Muslim divorces and registering them
- Signing of affidavits, declarations and agreements
- Translating Arabic related documents
- Supervising the registries under him/her in consultation with the magistrate in charge; and,
- Keeping records of all arbitration and submitting returns of registered marriages and divorces.
Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications:
For appointment to this position, the applicant must have: –
- Have a degree in Islamic Law from a recognized university.
- Profess the Islamic faith
- Member of recognised Islamic Association
- Be able to effectively communicate in English, Kiswahili & Arabic languages
- Be of good conduct in accordance with Islamic faith
- Proficient in computer application
- A Course in Senior Management or its equivalent from a recognizedInstitution (an added advantage), and.
- Meets the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic in Islamic law, or Islamic law practitioner or such experience in other related fields.

Resident Magistrates- 60 Posts
JOB REFERENCE NUMBER: V/No. 9/2023
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties will include: –
- Presiding as a Resident Magistrate in any court station in Kenya with jurisdiction as stipulated in various statutes;
- Performing Deputy Registrars duties as stipulated in various statues;
- Overseeing the operations of the court(s) and management of staff under his/her charge; and
- Carrying out a wide range of administrative functions for those heading stations.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time.
Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications:
For appointment to the position of Resident Magistrate, an applicant must be in possession of the following minimum qualifications: –
- A Law Degree from any recognized University;
- A Diploma from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education;
- Admission to the Roll of Advocates;
- Proficiency in computer applications;
- Must not have any pending complaints with the Advocates Complaints Commission, the Disciplinary Committee or adverse report from current and previous employer(s);
- Must possess the qualifications set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Experience:
- Three (3) years post admission experience either in private practice or other employment and a current practicing certificate

- Copies of academic and professional certificates, testimonials and academic transcripts;
- Applicant’s one (1) recent coloured passport size photographs
Resident Magistrates Candidates Should also upload the below documents along with ones listed above:
- Copy of admission certificate to the roll of advocates (a Must)
- Professional and Academic certificates, academic transcripts and Testimonials:
Shortlisted candidates shall be required to produce originals of their National Identity Card, academic and professional certificates and transcripts during interviews;
Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit valid clearance certificates from the following bodies during the interview: –
- Kenya Revenue Authority
- Higher Education Loans Board
- Directorate of Criminal Investigation
- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
- A recognized Credit Reference Bureau; and
- Recommendation from relevant professional body, as the case may be, as being in Good Standing.
